A friend of ours was standing in line at Starbucks for her morning coffee a few weeks ago. Scrolling through her phone, reading emails, making lists of things she had to get done that day and wondering when the man in front of her would be finished ordering.  Finally it was her turn to place her order. Her regular grande latte order was placed and she waited for the woman behind the counter to take her payment. “It’s been paid for already,” said the woman. Our friend could not understand. Why was she getting a free latte?  The Starbucks employee went on to explain that every   week on that specific day, that man that had been in front of our friend would pay for the order of whomever was standing in line behind him. A simple kind gesture to make someone’s day a little brighter.

We loved this story and felt like it was something so wonderful to share with all of you. As we enter into the season of lists, excess, stress, “I wants” and “Why can’t I haves,” it’s always good to remember what we do have, what really is important in our lives and what we can do to make someone else’s day a little brighter.

So,

1) Give Thanks:

Be thankful and grateful for all that you have. We are blessed in more ways than we know.

2) Give Back:

Remember to give back to others. Whether it be participating in a soup kitchen, sending a check to the Red Cross for Philippine relief, or simply donating some unused items from your home to help furnish someone else’s, one selfless act can impact another so greatly.

3) Pay it Forward:

Say hello to that neighbor you’ve never met, send a note to your child’s teacher- thanking them for what they do, or buy a cup of coffee for someone you don’t know.  Your simple act might set in motion an entire ripple effect–touching more people than you can imagine.

So give thanks, give back and pay it forward. Your life will be richer because of it.
